Story #1: Mercedes Rodriguez-Sanday

A human resource manager in Argentina working from home

Meet Mercedes Rodriguez-Sanday, an Argentinian human resource specialist at DistantJob.

Mercedes has been working from home for several years now. But before now, she struggled to find her ideal job for eight years in the conventional, local job market. During this period, Mercedes felt unappreciated and suffered from impostor syndrome.

But things turned out when she landed a remote job perfect for her

She met an incredible team of people who motivated and challenged her.

How did this help?

Remote work saved Mercedes’ mental health and gave her a new sense of hope and positivity. It allowed her to have a better work-life balance. It also opened up the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge tech company.

But that’s not even the best part.

Mercedes no longer needs to sacrifice her time and energy on long commutes.

Yes, working from home did come with its challenges. Mercedes, at first, struggled to find a balance between her work and personal life. It was hard for her to switch off and separate the two. But with time, she established boundaries. She prioritised self-care and maintained a healthy work-life balance.

The best thing for Mercedes is that she enjoys the connection she has found with her remote colleagues. Despite working from different locations, all her team members shared a sense of camaraderie. And that feeling made work meaningful.

Mercedes loves working from home as it makes her productive and efficient. She customises her workspace to suit her needs and can work when and where she wants.

Remote work has given Mercedes a new sense of purpose, connection, and joy.

She believes it can do the same for those trying to find their perfect job in the conventional work market.

Before moving to the UK, she had only worked from offices and never from home. Despite being new to remote work, she found independence and freedom in working from home.

Erika was able to design her schedule according to what worked best for her. Her remote job gives her the time to care for herself – something almost impossible in today’s working society.

But working from home didn’t come without its challenges.

She initially felt disconnected from her colleagues. But she soon resolved this challenge through constant conversations with her team members via video chat and instant messaging.

And who says professional networking is only limited to office spaces? Erika joined virtual social groups to meet new people and make professional connections.
