In the midst of a pandemic, society found innovative ways to stay connected and resume daily operations. We stood strong and didn’t let a virus disrupt the momentum of our lives.
Certain aspects of our lives did have to go through change. However, the functionality as facilitated through the internet (YAY) remained.
Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) is a reputed university in India offering Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. They have several campuses all over the country.
Students of NMIMS (Mumbai) namely a quiz committee entitled ‘Lei Ipsum’ decided to organize a quiz competition in the midst of a pandemic. They didn’t let any obstacles come in their way and adapted to the situation.
Their key members that organized the competition include Vidit Kumat, Bipasha Nayak, and Chetna Singh.
Overview of the competition
The national quiz competition was hosted amongst students of law and management colleges in India. The contest had two parts, the initial and the final round. The contests were spread out in different states of India.
The first part of the competition had about 50+ teams and 100+ participants that consisted of MCQ questions.
The semi-final round had 4 teams that were selected based on the first round and was undertaken in a knockout tournament format.
The final teams selected battled it out in the final round of the competition.
The committee members of Lei Ipsum wanted a video conferencing platform that was easy to use and could provide access to all their members.
TelebuJoin acted as a platform for the conduction of the quiz competition. It was used for international communications amongst the committee and team members. Sharing of audio and video clips that were posed as questions (screen sharing). The chat section was used for icebreakers at the beginning of the competition. Scores were easily tracked through the use of our platform. Lastly, the award ceremony after the relevant winners were selected was hosted on TelebuJoin.
TelebuJoin Aiding in The Conduction Of the Quiz
The committee members came across TelebuJoin and were extremely impressed by its scalability. Although one of their members, Vidit Kumat says “Initially, it took us some time to get used to the software, but it was so easy to use after that”.
One of the main features that helped all the members was the adaptability to the web browser. Hosting a large number of members and having to liaise with each one of them with regards to the software logistics was not a problem they came across. “It was a seamless experience as it didn’t require any external software, and proved to minimize any unforeseen logistical problems” expressed Chetna Singh.
Features That Provided An Ideal Experience
The quizzes were hosted both as webinars and personalized video conferences to perpetuate a seamless experience.
One of the main features that provided an ideal experience was the bandwidth changeability option.
They explained that because they had participants from different demographics, this feature especially helped them in the conduction. Not everyone had a strong internet connection, and because of this feature alone, their competition ran smoothly. “Audio is so much more important in these quizzes” Chetna Singh explained how the audio-only mode was a huge plus point for them during the contest.
Another feature that smoothened out the process of the competition was the fact that no external software had to be installed. The participants had to click on a mere click and join in the competition; this ensured that each contestant could join within seconds. They were no hold-ups because of technical difficulties, as the platform was immensely easy to use.
All the committee members were in agreement with how easy it is to use the platform. They were especially impressed by the prompt support provided by the Telebu Communications customer support team.
Bipasha Nayak recalled an instance “There was once a time, where it was late night and we had a query so we messaged a customer representative. To our surprise, they replied almost instantly and resolved the query within minutes”.
Some of the other features that assisted the participants in having an experience that has a semblance of a real one are: live chatting, file sharing, meeting recording, hand raise button, and the locking of rooms (to ensure privacy).
Conclusion
The quiz competition was a massive success as supported by our video conferencing platform, TelebuJoin.
“It was a smooth sailing experience in the end”, contested by all three committee members.
They were especially impressed by the prompt support offered by our team.
“Because of the swift support, we only had to focus on the management aspect of the quiz, because the support provided by the team took care of the logistics” explained Chetna Singh.
All in all, the national quiz competition was a smooth sailing experience.
